The next generation of apple trees and apple tree growers have been nurtured over the last couple of weeks with our apple tree grafting and pruning workshops taking place. Nairn Academy pupils, staff and the farmer Jones Academy visited the Sandown Allotments and learned from experienced growers Jules, Des and Robert about permaculture and apple tree grafting. They will now take their trees, and knowledge back to start their own orchard at Nairn Academy!
We also had a session with Des and Robert for Green Hive volunteers, members and (potentially) future volunteers, including top tips for pruning fruit trees and how to create one apple tree with multiple varieties of apples growing on it. Now to put these lessons in to action in our own gardens and at the community orchard!
